The highly anticipated heavyweight superfight between light heavyweight champion Alex "Poatan" Pereira and legendary former champion Jon "Bones" Jones appears to be off the table, following a disappointing update from Pereira himself.

On December 15, the Brazilian knockout artist posted a photo on Instagram alongside UFC CEO Dana White, captioning it simply: "Looks like the White House is a NO GO!!!" The post, which has sent shockwaves through the MMA community, implies that Pereira's plans to compete on the historic UFC event scheduled for June 14, 2026, on the White House lawn have been scrapped.

Pereira, 38, has been vocal about his desire to move up to heavyweight for a third concurrent UFC title, specifically targeting Jones as his opponent for the unprecedented card celebrating America's 250th anniversary. After reclaiming the 205-pound belt with a stunning first-round TKO over Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 in October, "Poatan" repeatedly called for the matchup, even expressing willingness to wait until the White House event due to a foot injury.

Jones, who briefly retired earlier in 2025 before expressing interest in returning, had reciprocated the callout, fueling fan excitement for what many dubbed the "biggest fight in MMA history." However, Dana White has consistently poured cold water on involving Jones, citing trust issues from past pullouts, including a scrapped unification bout with interim champ Tom Aspinall.

The cryptic post suggests the UFC has denied Pereira's request, potentially forcing him back to light heavyweight defenses rumors point to a possible early 2026 clash with rising contender Carlos Ulberg. Fans have reacted with frustration, blaming White's caution for derailing a legacy-defining spectacle.

While the White House card remains in planning (matchmaking expected in February), Pereira's exclusion dims hopes for the Pereira-Jones dream match there.

As one of the UFC's biggest stars, Pereira's next move will be closely watched. For now, the superfight that had the community buzzing seems grounded leaving fans wondering what could have been. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
