Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny has made history by delivering the first Super Bowl halftime show performed almost entirely in Spanish, celebrating Latin culture and unity during the NFL's biggest event.

The 31-year-old artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, took to the stage at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on 8 February for Super Bowl LX, between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. His 13-minute set featured hits from his Grammy-winning album Debí Tirar Más Fotos, including tracks that highlighted themes of identity, resilience, and Puerto Rican heritage.

Bad Bunny was joined by surprise guests including Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, adding star power to the performance. The show included elaborate set designs evoking Puerto Rican landscapes, dancers in traditional-inspired attire, and even a reported live wedding ceremony on stage, symbolising community and joy.

Critics praised the performance for its cultural significance, with many calling it a "revolutionary" moment that redefined American patriotism by incorporating Latin American narratives. However, some viewers noted audio issues, questioning the sound quality during the broadcast.

The halftime show, sponsored by Apple Music, has already been hailed as one of the most-watched in Super Bowl history, drawing widespread acclaim on social media for its energy and message of inclusivity.

Bad Bunny, a global icon with billions of streams, used the platform to showcase Puerto Rico's history and culture, blending reggaeton, trap, and traditional elements in a high-energy spectacle. The performance comes just a week after his album won Album of the Year at the 2026 Grammys.
