The lead singer and songwriter of US rock band 3 Doors Down, Brad Arnold, has died at the age of 47 following a battle with cancer.

The band announced the news on social media, stating that Arnold passed away peacefully in his sleep on 7 February, surrounded by his wife Jennifer and family.

Arnold, a founding member of the group, revealed in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with stage four clear cell renal carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer that had spread to his lungs. This led to the cancellation of several tour dates as he underwent treatment.

Born in Escatawpa, Mississippi, in 1978, Arnold formed 3 Doors Down in 1996 alongside guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrell. Initially serving as the band's drummer as well as vocalist, Arnold transitioned to full-time front man as the group gained prominence.

The band rose to fame in the early 2000s with their debut album The Better Life, which featured the breakout hit "Kryptonite". The song topped the US rock charts and earned the band Grammy nominations. Subsequent albums like Away from the Sun (2002) and Seventeen Days (2005) produced further successes, including "Here Without You" and "When I'm Gone", selling millions of copies worldwide.

3 Doors Down's music, often blending post-grunge rock with themes of personal struggle and resilience, resonated with a broad audience. Arnold's emotive lyrics and powerful vocals were central to the band's appeal.

In a statement, the band described Arnold as the "emotional center" of 3 Doors Down, crediting him with redefining mainstream rock through accessible yet emotionally charged songwriting.

Tributes have poured in from fans and fellow musicians. Shinedown front man Brent Smith shared a heartfelt message, highlighting Arnold's influence and friendship.

Arnold is survived by his wife and family. The band has asked for privacy during this time of mourning.
